Do You Really Love Him?

Oswald Chambers 90x115by Oswald Chambers

She has done a good work for Me —Mark 14:6

If what we call love doesn’t take us beyond ourselves, it is not really love. If we have the idea that love is characterized as cautious, wise, sensible, shrewd, and never taken to extremes, we have missed the true meaning. This may describe affection and it may bring us a warm feeling, but it is not a true and accurate description of love.

Have you ever been driven to do something for God not because you felt that it was useful or your duty to do so, or that there was anything in it for you, but simply because you love Him? Have you ever realized that you can give things to God that are of value to Him? Or are you just sitting around daydreaming about the greatness of His redemption, while neglecting all the things you could be doing for Him? I’m not referring to works which could be regarded as divine and miraculous, but ordinary, simple human things— things which would be evidence to God that you are totally surrendered to Him. Have you ever created what Mary of Bethany created in the heart of the Lord Jesus? “She has done a good work for Me.”

God’s Will

We will always have all we need, to do all that God wants us to do, as long as He wants us to do it.

God Is Our Critic

A.W. Tozer 90x115by A.W. Tozer

You, then, why do you judge your brother? Or why do you look down on your brother? For we will all stand before God’s judgment seat. Romans 14:10

Was it not Voltaire who said that some people were like insects, they would never be noticed except that they sting? A traveler must make up his mind to go on regardless of the insects that make his trip miserable. They cannot stop a determined man; they can only make his journey unpleasant. So it is with the people who delight to swarm around the ears of God’s servants as they move onward toward their appointed goal. We may all expect to be stung by our many fellow humans who appear to have dedicated themselves to the task of causing minor heartaches wherever they can as long as they can to as many people as possible. These misguided people cannot be escaped, they can only be endured. One thing is certain, a Christian’s standing before God does not depend upon his standing before men. A high reputation does not make a man dearer to God, nor does the tongue of the slanderer influence God’s attitude toward His people in any way. He knows us each one, and we stand or fall in the light of His perfect knowledge. Let us be sure that we are right with God and with men; after that there is nothing we can do except to "both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the Lord." And by the indwelling power of the Holy Spirit, we may do our hoping and waiting in such a way that our enemies will be forced to admit that we have been with Jesus and learned of Him.

It Is I, Be Not Afraid

A.B. Simpson 90 x115by A.B. Simpson

Be not dismayed; for I am thy God—Isaiah 41:10

How tenderly God soothes our fears! How sweetly He says in the introductory verse,

Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: . . . I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.

And yet again, still with tender thoughtfulness,

I the Lord thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear not; I will help thee (Isaiah 41:13).

He does not say it only once, but He keeps holding our right hand and repeating such promises.

British PM Commits To Legalizing Homosexual Marriage

Chris Perver 90x115by Chris Perver

David Cameron has remarked that the United Kingdom will legalize homosexual and lesbian ‘marriage’ despite receiving scathing criticism from former Archbishop Lord Carey over the plans. The Archbishop has set up an organization, the Coalition for Marriage, to protest against the government’s proposals. The former Labour government introduced the Civil Partnership Act in 2005, enabling homosexuals to have their relationships officially recognised in law for the first time. It was intended only as a legal alternative to marriage in the traditional sense, which was still legally defined as a union between one man and one woman. In January 2007 the Sexual Orientation Regulations legislation was brought in, making it illegal for anyone to discriminate against a person based on their sexual orientation. The law has been used by homosexual activist organizations such as Stonewall to persecute Christian business owners who happen to disagree with their choice of lifestyle. And in October 2010, the Equalities Bill was signed into law.

In The Last Days

Roger Anghis 90x115by Roger Anghis

2 Timothy 3:1,5 “This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, Traitors, heady, high minded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.

We have begun to see unrest in our society in the last few months. Our new administration has begun to take the United States in a direction that our Founding Fathers never imagined. This last week we saw over a million people gather in different parts of the nation to voice their displeasure to the socialistic nature of our new president. There were many warnings prior to the election about the direction that he would try to take this country, but not many listened. He even stated himself that we need to ‘remake America’.

When The Accounts Are Called: A Christian Understanding of Gambling

Al Mohler 90x115by Al Mohler

The nationwide explosion of legal gambling may well be the most underrated dimension of America’s moral crisis. With the expansion of state lotteries, casino gambling, and new technologies, the gambling industry is poised to grow even further in the next decade.

According to some estimates, as much as one-third of the nation’s money supply now moves through the gambling industry each year. Looking at a recent annual economic report, management consultant Eugene M. Christiansen determined that

“Americans spent more on gambling than they did on health insurance, dentists, shoes, foreign travel, or household appliances.”

The Riches of the Destitute

Oswald Chambers 90x115by Oswald Chambers

. . . being justified freely by His grace . . . —Romans 3:24

The gospel of the grace of God awakens an intense longing in human souls and an equally intense resentment, because the truth that it reveals is not palatable or easy to swallow. There is a certain pride in people that causes them to give and give, but to come and accept a gift is another thing. I will give my life to martyrdom; I will dedicate my life to service— I will do anything. But do not humiliate me to the level of the most hell-deserving sinner and tell me that all I have to do is accept the gift of salvation through Jesus Christ.
